Prediction for return of trench coat in 2010
It is predicted that the trench coat is going to come back into fashion in 2010. As it name implies, it originated back to the First and Second World War days when it was used by soldiers fighting in the trenches. In fact it was a member of the Burberry family, founded way back in 1856, that produced the very first trench coat.

They had been searching for a material that was resistant to water and finally came up with one which they called gabardine that had very thick threads. This material didn’t allow any water at all to penetrate and became a real innovation and success. They had large orders from all around with their biggest being from the army.
The trench coat was used for many years by soldiers and when the war ended it had proved itself to be such a tough piece of clothing that when the soldiers came back to civil life they were still wearing their trench coats, but this time on the streets and not in the trenches.
Since those days it has been giving a bit more style and a brought up to date with the current fashions so that both women and men can wear them. It usually comes in the colours of khaki green, beige and sometimes black, is double breasted and has a material belt with a buckle to tie round the waist.
It really is one of the best raincoats around because apart from being functional and efficient at doing its job, ie keeping you dry, it is also a very stylish coat that can be used for many occasion and not just when it’s raining.
No doubt when it comes into fashion again next year it will have had some slight additions or alterations made in order to give it another lease of life.
